Major Preparation for Transfer Students

Prospective transfer students are encouraged to plan ahead and complete as many courses as possible to prepare for their chosen major.

UCSD's academic departments specify courses you must take during the first two years of college to prepare for upper-division study in your major.

Begin coursework in your major as soon as you have selected one. We advise you to complete all lower-division major courses before you enroll at UC San Diego.

  • See the UCSD General Catalog for a list of major prerequisites or the departmental website for a specific major.
  • UCSD has established major preparation articulation agreements with many California community colleges. Visit the ASSIST website to find out how your coursework might transfer to UC San Diego.
  • Check Impacted Majors for information about which majors have limited enrollment.
  • Some majors admit students to pre-major status only. See Majors With Pre-major Status to find these majors.
